The Dog Show
Here are some pictures I took at the dog show I went to yesterday. I had a great time and got to meet and pet lots of awesome pups! Unfortunately, I met too many to take pictures of every single one, but here are the ones I did get pictures of:
This little Boxer dude was such a sweet boy! He gave my sister (Riley's Aunt Baddy) and I both kisses on the lips. He is 6 months old and was competing in Rally. Reminds me of Miss Maggie Mae!
This is Scarlett. She was also super sweet! She is a Leonberger. I don't think Riley and I have any Leonberger friends in Blogville, so if you know of one, let us know!
Sweet Scarlett again. She was showing in Conformation.
This big guy, a Mastiff, was competing in Rally. I didn't get to pet him, but his paws were ginormous! Reminded me of none other than Mr. Light on His Feet, Mango Man!
This Newfie girl was such a love bug! She kissed my face and got half of my face and the bag I was holding wet! She was competing in Conformation. She reminded me of Remington and Sherman and Leroy (who had a good weekend at his dog show!).
This was the Non-Sporting Group competing. I was able to identify all the different dog breeds, so I was pretty pleased with myself! :)
This is a really blurry picture, sorry...but this girl is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. I had never seen one in "real life" before. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to pet her. From what I understand, this is a pretty rare dog breed in the US? I might be wrong about that, who knows...
These were the fabulous dogs getting their awards in Rally. Unfortunately, we got there after they had already finished competing, but we did watch the awards ceremony.
Anyway, it was a fun day and I look forward to attending again next year! Have a safe weekend, everyone!

Too Hot (and Too Early) to Play
Riley is zonked out beside me on the couch taking her morning nap. It's going to be almost 90 degrees today. It was 95 yesterday! We stayed inside most of the day.
I am planning on dragging taking my sister with me to a big dog show that's going on this weekend in town. The Langley Kennel Club and the Gloucester Kennel Club put this show on every year at the local Convention Center. I went a few years ago, but only had time to browse, so I spend on planning a little bit more time there this year. Unfortunately, dogs that aren't competing in the show can't attend, so Riley will just have to continue her napping. The Australian Cattle Dogs are showing tomorrow morning, and not today, but I'm hoping to get lots of pictures of other dog breeds today.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! I might head up to Busch Gardens one day this weekend (with about 87,000 other people, no doubt...), and am planning on hitting up some yard sales tomorrow morning. Also, I think I'm going to be babysitting for my friends while they go to a movie. (It's all good, I like to babysit this little girl!).

The Chesapeake Retirement Community
Just ignore this post...I posted this a week or two ago during the Blogger meltdown and it had some strange labels on it that I didn't want showing up anymore...so I had to repost it. My "real" post from today is below this one--"Wordless Wednesday--Roaching Edition."
I totally forgot to blog about how my meeting went with the Activities Director of the new (technically not "new," but new to us) retirement community Riley and I are going to start visiting! If you want to take a look at their website, you'll see just how fancy of a place it is: The Chesapeake Retirement Community.
They have a swimming pool at this facility! Wowsers! And, three of the seniors there were playing Wii Bowling when I was there. Too cool.
The Activities Director was very nice (although I think she is under the impression that Riley is a small dog...surprise!) and showed me around the other day. We'll be visiting the assisted living building that has three floors. The only thing I'm a little concerned with is that Riley will have to ride the elevator to get up and down to the different floors. She's never been in an elevator before, but hopefully as long as I'm in the elevator with her, she'll do fine.
The Activities Director told me that they have a lab named Luke that visits every Tuesday morning and when he first started going there (right before Christmas) he was scared of the elevator too but is fine with it now. We will be visiting every other Thursday afternoon starting next Thursday. We still have our nursing home visits to Coliseum Park every other Friday (next Friday). We're excited to be expanding our reach!! (Well, I am at least...Riley doesn't know she's going somewhere new yet)!

Josie Posie
If you have a few minutes, be sure to go over to Anakin Man's blog and leave some kind words for Anakin, TriXie, IzZy, and their Momma. Sweet Miss Josie crossed to the Rainbow Bridge last week. We always enjoyed reading Josie's posts on their blog--she had quite the sense of humor and looked gorgeous in pink! We will always remember her.

Miss Manners
Since Riley was your very own Personal Trainer on Thursday demonstrating how to properly execute (and enjoy) the Insanity Workout, she feels she needs to do a post on how to stay properly hydrated when exercising! She also is applying to become a regular writer on the "Miss Manners" newspaper column. Not sure how that last bit is going to work out though!
"First, you test out the temperature with your tongue...you want the water to be nice and cool, not too hot and not cold enough to give you a brain freeze!"
"Be sure to stick your whole snout down in the bowl to cool off your nose!"
"Also, it is the most fun if you splash water all over the ground/wall/upside-down flower pots and your paws...you know, you sweat from your paws and having nice, wet paws helps cool you off!"
"Oooh, oooh!! Blow bubbles in the water with your nose! There's no scientific reasoning for this, it's just a whole lot of fun!"
A quick, funny story from this morning--I might have overslept a little bit and Grandpa came to my room and opened the door a little bit so Riley could get out and go downstairs to go out to the bathroom and to eat breakfast. She was still sleeping when he opened the door. He said she jumped up on all fours and stood on the bed with her back arched and the fur sticking up on her back. I guess she was ready to be my guard dog until she realized it was just Grandpa and Chloe out in the hall.
Gotta go...the phone's ringing! Must be Miss Manners calling! :-)

The Insanity Workout
I am feeling loads and loads better today! The antibiotics seem to be finally kicking in. The pain from the pleurisy is all gone today. In fact, I am feeling so good today that I lost my mind decided to give Riley a bath before her nursing home visit tomorrow. She hadn't had a bath in forever (a few months at least) and has been delighting in getting dirty and muddy lately.
A quick note about our "fancy pants" retirement community we're going to start visiting: the activities director called me on Tuesday and said that in all of her excitement about Riley and I coming to start visits, she forgot that I have to fill out paperwork, have a criminal background check, and have a PPD (tuberculosis) test before we can start. Our first visit was supposed to be today at 2:00, but I went by and filled out the paperwork yesterday and am waiting on a call back about when I can go get the PPD done. I am actually glad to see that they require all of their volunteers do this--it seems smart to me. So I don't mind the delay! Oh, and I met Luke, the yellow lab that's a therapy dog there already. He's 11 and SUPER mellow...Riley's gonna seem like the Tasmanian Devil compared to him! ;-)
You've heard of the Insanity workout program? Yes? Good. Here's Riley being insane demonstrating that workout right after her bath...

Down and Out--For the Moment!
Just a note to let you know we are still alive and kicking because I haven't posted in several days... I have a sinus infection and possibly pleurisy. Ick. I am feeling quite a bit better now, but definitely not 100%.
Here is a picture of the cutie pie to tide you over:

Beautiful Weather
I know a lot of areas in the US are having horrible weather--floods and fires, etc. We have been having very nice, cool weather, so I thought I would brag about it! :) No, but seriously, we are thinking of everyone who is being affected by the fires and the flooding and we hope everything gets resolved quickly!
It was in the mid to high 70's yesterday and sunny. It's supposed to be nice again today, tomorrow, and Thursday, and then rain on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (yuck!!). I guess that's what I get for bragging, huh?
We enjoyed a nice day in the backyard yesterday and Ifinally took some pictures.

Riley and her beloved pink Wubba!
Chewing on a stick.
Look at those chompers!! Yikes! :)
Pretty girl.
The day wouldn't be complete without some roaching around in the grass!
Unfortunately, while we were playing fetch, I threw the Wubba a little too close to the tree and Riley scraped a bunch of fur off of her right hind leg. :( It didn't seem to bother her too much. It was all red and bloody looking yesterday, but I put hydrogen peroxide on it and the picture above is how it looks today--much better!
I am going by the assisted living facility (that we're going to start visiting) this afternoon without Riley to drop off all of our paperwork and get a little mini-tour!

Art of Recovery Exhibit
So last night was the big night! The "Art of Recovery" art show's opening night. Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Baddy (who is not always bad), and I headed up to Fredericksburg (VA, of course!) to the gallery to attend the opening. It was about a 2 hour, 10 minute drive, so it wasn't too bad. We got there in plenty of time, so we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then walked around the mall for a little while before heading to quaint little downtown Fredericksburg to the PONSHOP art gallery.
I mentioned in a previous post that they had incorporated my painting into their promotional materials advertising for the art show. It was cool to actually see the posters in person! The owners of the art gallery, Gabe and Scarlett, were two of the nicest (and coolest) people I've ever met.
Here are some pictures:

The other side of the chalkboard sign--the cool posters they made.
Me standing by said "cool posters."
My painting made it in the newspaper! Pretty cool!
Me with the two gallery owners. They are husband and wife. My painting is up above my head on the left side of this picture.
What was really cool was that the organizers framed one of their posters of the advertising materials with my painting incorporated into it and gave it to me! Pretty neat.
The art show coincides with Mental Health Month (which is May), and featured artwork by people that are living with a mental health diagnosis. Everyone at the show was very accepting and we all got treated like normal human beings, so that was a definite positive! The gallery owners didn't treat me any different because I have a mental illness, so I was very impressed with that.
Anyway, it was a fun little trip and I felt like a million bucks while I was there! I got the royal treatment! And of course, I got even more royal treatment when I got back home to Riley! Uncle Jimmy came by while we were gone and fed her and Chloe and let them out--so of course, she had to love on her "boyfriend."

A Quick Post
This is just a quick post...no pictures, unfortunately. We just got back from our regular Friday nursing home visit! We went this morning instead of our usual 1:30 PM time because I'm heading up to the art show this afternoon.
We are confirmed for every other Thursday at the assisted living place I was talking about the other day! They already have a TDI dog visiting every Tuesday, but we're just going to add to their visits. I am going to meet with the Activities Coordinator next Tuesday to get a tour and to bring her all of Riley's shot records and a copy of her badge.
Anywho, I'm getting excited about the art show!! Just a few more hours til I head up there! :)

Another Place to Visit!
We got a "tip" on a nursing home/assisted living/senior adult community that would like a therapy dog visit. It's a fancy pants facility, and is huuuge, so we're pretty excited! I'm going to get in touch with the activities coordinator tomorrow.

I'm Ba-aack!
I got back from St. Louis laaate Sunday night...around midnight. Riley and I were both so happy to see each other!! I had a good trip overall. I had a delayed flight on the way back (which ALWAYS happens when I go to St. Louis), but I did get home safe and sound. I look forward to catching up on everyone's blogs, but we have a lot of friends, so it may take me a while to get around to everyone!!
Here are some pictures of me and Riley's reunion:

"Oh, Mommy!! I'm so happy I could just smother you...literally!"
So happy to see my girl again!
"Thank you, Grandpa, for feeding me every day and playing with me!"
Kisses
Catching up!
P.S. to Puddles: Riley is verrrrrrry jealous of your chipmunk killing!! :)
